What is Electrician Insurance?

Electrical work can cause serious injuries. Even if your skills and experience are impressive, you could make a mistake which results in causing injuries to yourself, fire damage, or property damage. Even worse, you could face a costly legal action.
Insurance for electrical contractors protects against financial losses that can be devastating due to injuries or property damage, as well as other risks associated with the business.
Electric contractor insurance or electrician insurance is the abbreviated name for all of the insurance policies that you might want to consider protecting your North Carolina electrical business.

Why do North Carolina electricians need insurance?

It’s risky to work on electrical systems, whether you’re a commercial or residential electrician in North Carolina. Each electrician has a risk for fires, injuries from live wires, and accidental damage to the client’s property.

North Carolina electricians have business insurance to help them to protect themselves from the risks that electricians confront. Without the various insurance policies, you could be liable for costly legal costs, compensation payments, and other unexpected expenses that can drain your bank accounts.

What types of insurance do electricians need in North Carolina?

Electrical contractors can choose among a variety of coverage options. BizInsure’s electrician coverage is extensive and affordable.

General Liability Insurance

Also referred to as Commercial General Liability (CGL) or “slip and fall coverage”, this insurance can protect your business against bodily injury or property damage lawsuits from outside parties.

This coverage is considered by many to be a basic insurance for electricians. It protects against lawsuits and other financial liabilities that may arise from accidents. This coverage includes:

  • Damage to third party property
  • Third-party injury

Business Owners Policy

Business Owner’s Policy (BOP) is a convenient and affordable way for small business owners to protect against several of their most common exposures. These policies combine General Liability insurance with other types of coverage, such as business interruption and business property damage.

Professional Liability Insurance

Professional Liability insurance can protect professional service providers from potentially devastating financial damages resulting from alleged negligence or error in the delivery of your services.

This coverage, which is also called Errors & Omissions Insurance (E&O) will protect you from financial losses that result from errors or negligence made when offering services.

Professional Insurance covers incidents like:

  • Giving incorrect advice to clients about accessibility or other standards within the building
  • Your work is flawed and may make it necessary for the client to purchase new materials or labor
  • A customer claims that you acted negligently, even if though this is untrue

Workers Compensation Insurance

Workers’ Compensation protects your company and its employees. If any of your employees get injured at work or are ill, this type of insurance will cover their medical bills. It will also cover some of their lost income if they’re unable to work because of the injury, as well as rehabilitation or physical therapy to transition the employee back into the workplace.

North Carolina law requires employers with three or more employees to carry workers comp coverage.

Tool and Equipment insurance

As an electrical contractor the tools and equipment you use are essential to your success.

The Tools and Equipment policy can offer financial protection against unforeseeable events.

Cyber Liability insurance

Cyber Liability insurance protects your business against malicious software attacks, data breaches, viruses, and phishing. It also covers legal fees, notifying customers of a breach, credit monitoring, and fines that your company may be ordered pay. This coverage also applies to Personally Identifiable Information (aka Non-Public Information) such as names, addresses, phone numbers, social security numbers, credit card and banking info, email addresses, etc.

How much does electrician insurance cost in North Carolina?

The cost for electrical insurance in North Carolina can be affected by a variety of aspects. These include contractual requirements, employee numbers, and other exposures related to your job.

FEEDBACK: In my personal opinion, your telephone customer service needs to be improved. Whomever basically and initially answers the phone calls lately needs a new headset, honestly. I know you record all of your calls; however, listening skills truly needs to be improved also, IMO and if I ask someone to please take a message, and they tell me they are going to do so, then follow through and send that message to the main person I'm trying to reach. I have had difficulty getting back to the "exact" insurance agent with whom I've been working with and it's been a bit frustrating handling this current 2025-2026 renewal.
BizInsure has always been a necessary and important business resource.
