What is Errors and Omissions insurance?

Also known as E&O or Professional Liability insurance, an Errors and Omissions policy protects your business against claims of negligence, misrepresentations, or mistakes. Professional Liability claims are typically made by clients who allege some form of financial damage as a result of your services, products or employees.

According to the U.S. Small Business Administration’s Office of Advocacy, there were 182,684 small businesses in Nebraska at the time of the year 2022. Even though they made up 99.1 percent of the business in the state, these figures are steadily on the rise.

Mistakes may occur, no matter what industry you work in, the products you sell or the nature of your products or services. Even if you have a stellar track record and have a great reputation, just one mistake to start a suit against your company.

Thus, in a highly competitive business environment, where clients are increasingly becoming more demanding in their expectations, Errors and Omissions insurance may be essential to assist small business owners to protect their future finances. Errors and Omissions insurance safeguards your business from liability claims that result as from your negligent acts (errors) or the inability to provide services (omissions).

What does Error and Omissions insurance cover?

Errors and Omissions insurance in Nebraska covers your expenses up to amounts specified in the contract. You can save on:

  • Legal costs – Most lawyers have an hourly charge. Even if your case is resolved swiftly the cost can be high to get a good lawyer. Also, the longer the matter is resolved, the more you’ll need to shell out.
  • Court expenses – Filing documents in court, underwriting charges and other administrative expenses.
  • Settlements to make both sides financially more efficient and to avoid costly, lengthy cost of litigation, the majority of cases are settled without court. Based on what your lawyer’s recommendations are, you might have to pay the client a certain amount.
  • Judgments – If the case goes to trial, and if the judge is in favor of the plaintiff, you’ll need to pay the adjudged amount or be at risk of having a lien placed on the assets of your business.

Who might need Errors & Omissions insurance?

FEEDBACK: In my personal opinion, your telephone customer service needs to be improved. Whomever basically and initially answers the phone calls lately needs a new headset, honestly. I know you record all of your calls; however, listening skills truly needs to be improved also, IMO and if I ask someone to please take a message, and they tell me they are going to do so, then follow through and send that message to the main person I'm trying to reach. I have had difficulty getting back to the "exact" insurance agent with whom I've been working with and it's been a bit frustrating handling this current 2025-2026 renewal.
BizInsure has always been a necessary and important business resource.
